Grammar Friday

Today’s two grammar tips:

  • Eliminate unnecessary words. Mark Twain said it best: “Substitute ‘damn’ every time you’re inclined to write ‘very’; your editor will delete it, and the writing will be just as it should be.”
  • Don’t shift verb tenses without good reason. Don’t say, “We drove to the lake, and Joe jumps right in.” Instead, say, “We drove to the lake, and Joe jumped right in.”
