Grammar Friday

Today’s two tips:

  • Don’t use many abbreviations in formal writing. You should write, “We moved from Missouri to Arizona,” not “We moved from Mo. to Ariz.” (Those abbreviations, incidentally, are sanctioned by the AP Stylebook. Writers should use the two-letter Postal Service abbreviations only with full addresses, including ZIP code.)
  • Never spell out numbers in addresses. “We live at 64 Butler Avenue,” not “We live at sixty-four Butler Avenue.”
